West Coast - State Highway 6 north of Haast update – opens to one lane

The NZ Transport Agency reopened State Highway 6 between Ross and Haast just before 10 am today with one lane in some places and Stop/Go manual traffic management.

Drivers are advised to expect delays and drive to the conditions, taking care around the clean-up crews and traffic managers. Rain is now easing in South Westland and surface water is starting to recede.

State Highway 73, Otira, Deception Point existing slip

Another 3,000 cubic metres of material was brought down by the heavy rain overnight at Deception Point on the Lower Otira Gorge. Heavy rain is still falling in the area.

The Transport Agency will re-assess the slip this afternoon to confirm if a road closure is needed overnight.
