Severe Weather Warning for Canterbury – Wind and Water
Extremely heavy rain and wind is forecast to hit the South Island tomorrow.
Canterbury, north of Ashburton is expected to experience very strong potentially damaging winds. Rain in the headwaters of the Canterbury alpine rivers may also cause river levels to raise rapidly.
Civil Defence Controller Neville Reilly is encouraging all Cantabrians and visitors our region to consider the weather forecast when planning their activities over the next few days.
Canterbury Civil Defence Emergency Management Group encourages everyone to be prepared by:
· Having enough supplies in case of power outage – torch, batteries.
· Do not light fires and avoiding any activity that could start a fire
· Secure any items around your property – outdoor furniture, trampolines, tents etc
