Critically damaged ocean racing yacht

Coastguard Bluff has responded to the critically damaged ocean racing yacht Le Souffle du Nord pour le Projet Imagine that struck a submerged object in the Tasman Sea.
Coastguard reached the yacht which was located approximately 40 nautical miles from Bluff when they rendezvoused. Coastguard Bluff was deployed at 1950 hours yesterday and rendezvoused with the stricken sailor at 2230. The Coastguard crew have two of the sailors shore crew on board with them.
The vessel is unable to be towed and Coastguard have been shadowing the yachtl as it makes its way back to shore at approximately 3-4 knots. They are due to reach Bluff at 0730 this morning.
“It’s been a long night for the yachitie and also the volunteer Coastguard crew who have responded to this incident. The Coastguard skipper has reported conditions have been favourable and the solo-sailor is very experienced which has made the journey back to shore easier.
“Our volunteers have done a great job and will be heading back to work today after being out all night, but we are pleased that the sailor is safe and well.” Said Cheryl Moffatt Coastguard Southern Manager.
