Getting around Auckland over the holidays

Auckland Transport media release

20 December 2016

Getting around Auckland over the holidays

The holidays mean some changes to bus, rail and ferry timetables in Auckland.

A holiday timetable will be in place to coincide with many Aucklanders being out of town so check our website before heading out.

Trains are operating Christmas and Boxing Day on the Western, Eastern, Onehunga and Southern Lines. Rail buses will replace some trains on the Eastern, Southern and Western Lines between 27 December and 3 January.

If you’re out and about on New Year’s Eve we will be putting on some additional Niterider and Northern Express services to get you home.

Bus

The holiday timetable runs from Christmas Day to 3 January.

If you’re heading to the airport Skybus will be operating its normal services over the holidays and on Waiheke there will be usual services to cope with all the holidaymakers.

Niterider late bus services will operate as normal on Friday and Saturday nights with additional buses on New Year’s Eve, if you plan to stay out late.

Extra Northern Express services will also operate on New Year’s Eve meaning a 15 minute frequency in both directions after midnight, the last bus to the shore from downtown will be at 3am.

Train

Services will operate on a holiday timetable from 25 December to 3 January.

On Christmas Day and Boxing Day the trains will run half hourly except to Pukekohe where they will be every hour. The train is a great way to get to the shops for all the sales on Boxing Day.

There will be some holiday maintenance work being done on the rail network so buses will replace trains from 27 December to 3 January on the Western Line, Eastern Line (Otahuhu to Manukau) and Southern Line (Otahuhu to Pukekohe).

Ferry

A holiday timetable is in operation from Christmas Day until 3 January and most ferries will be operating between Christmas and New Year but check the timetable.

On Christmas Day, if you’re heading to Devonport or Waiheke, there will be a Sunday timetable but on other days there will be plenty of ferries to get you around the harbour. If you’re planning to party on New Year’s Eve, we are putting on some extra services for Devonport and Waiheke.

Stanley Bay services are taking a break from 24 December until 8 January.

We hope you have a great holiday break but remember to keep our website handy to check on services:https://at.govt.nz/bus-train-ferry/service-announcements/bus-train-and-ferry-christmas-holiday-timetables/
