A new reservoir for Sweetacres Drive, Lower Hutt

Residents in the Sweetacres Drive area getting a new reservoir for 2017, due to be finished in September next year.

Wellington Water began work on the site, adjacent to 120 Sweetacres Drive, on Monday (12 December).

Manager Community Engagement, Wellington Water, Alex van Paassen, says the new reservoir replaces two small concrete tanks built in 1981, will provide 30 times more water storage for the area, and will be stronger in an earthquake.

“This is good news for residents in the area – Hutt City Council is investing in a more resilient water network which means we can all get back up and running more quickly in a disaster situation. The new reservoir also helps us cater for future growth in the area.”

Work started on Monday 12 December 2016 and will go through until September 2017.

“Prior to Christmas our contractors, Riverside Construction Ltd, are planning to get the site ready, put temporary tanks in place to make sure residents have water during construction and to remove the old tanks from the site. They will generally be working from 7am to 5:30pm Monday to Saturday.

“There will be trucks going in and out when we are demolishing the old tanks, excavating the site, and building the new reservoir. You’ll see our road works signs so please take care when driving past,” says Mr van Paassen.

Wellington Water is managing this work on behalf of Hutt City Council.
