Environment Canterbury welcomes National Transition Period
Environment Canterbury has welcomed the National Transition Period issued today which will help support recovery efforts following the November 14 earthquake.
Environment Canterbury Chief Executive Bill Bayfield said the regional council looked forward to working with the National Recovery Manager and supporting the Kaikōura, Marlborough and Hurunui District Councils and government agencies during the recovery phase.
“We are committed to assisting in the recovery to help ensure earthquake affected communities can recover quickly during this challenging time,” Mr Bayfield said.
Since the event on November 14, more than 100 Environment Canterbury staff have been working in civil defence response in Kaikōura, Hurunui and in the Canterbury Civil Defence base in Christchurch. They have been joined by local government staff from throughout New Zealand to support the immediate emergency response.
The Minister of Civil Defence gave notice of a National Transition Period in Kaikōura, Hurunui and Marlborough Districts, which came into force at 1pm today.
