Sentencing of Quinton Winders

"Statement - sentencing of Quinton Winders"

Attribute to Detective Superintendent Tim Anderson, Officer in Charge of Operation Kingswood

Police acknowledge the sentencing of Quinton Winders at the High Court in Rotorua today.

Winders received a sentence of life imprisonment with a minimum non-parole period of 17 years for the murder of George Taiaroa in 2013.

I note the comments of Justice Toogood that this was a thorough investigation involving countless hours of work, which was in the highest traditions of New Zealand Police.

I want to thank the investigation team, the expert witnesses and all those who have assisted with this complex inquiry.

I would also like to again acknowledge and thank the family of George Taiaroa who have conducted themselves with great dignity throughout the investigation and court process.
