Mayor on the mend and back at work

Mayor on the mend and back at work

Ruapehu Mayor Don Cameron is back at work following the assault on him and his wife in Raetihi on Tuesday night.

“Although both myself and Phyl have a few cuts and bruises we are both on the mend and are getting back to normal,” said Mayor Cameron.

“We would both like to thank the Raetihi and wider Ruapehu community for their calls of love and support and the Police for their quick apprehension of the offenders.”

“As the matter will now be before the court I can’t comment further on the assault itself.”

“This event has upset a lot of people but we are asking that people keep things in perspective and see it for what it was as an isolated incident that had nothing to do with my role as Mayor.”

“Myself and Council do not want this event to reflect on Raetihi and the wider Raetihi community in any way.”

“Council has been working hard to build connections with the Raetihi community and are in the process of mapping out a plan to help with its revitalization.”

“We are not going to allow this isolated incident undertaken by three individuals to derail any of this good work.”
