Join the computer coding movement in December

Hutt City Libraries joins organisations from more than 180 countries from around the world to take part in the Hour of Code.

The ‘Hour of Code’ is a global computer science movement reaching tens of millions of people of all ages. It’s a free, one-hour introduction to computer science designed to explain coding and demonstrate that anybody can learn the basics.

Lillian Pak, Programme Development Specialist at Hutt City Libraries says: “Coding is increasingly a valuable skill. Knowing the basics of coding can give everyone an edge in their career.

“Learning to code also teaches essential transferable skills such as problem solving and encourages creativity – plus it’s lots of fun!”

This will be the third year Hutt City Libraries has taken part and they plan to reach even more people across Lower Hutt with sessions at all eight libraries from 2-10 December. Over 220 people took part at libraries across Lower Hutt last year.

Participants can choose from a variety of tutorials that will work on any modern browser, tablet, or smartphone — there will even be coding activities that don’t require a computer. Library staff, mentors from the 2020 Trust, and volunteers will be on hand to help you get started.
