TEDxWellington Changes Venue And Doubles Attendees

Get out your diaries. TEDxWellington is announcing a change of venue and date for next year’s event: St James Theatre on Courtney Place on Sunday 18 June 2017.

TEDxWellington licensee and producer DK explained the reasons behind the change to this exciting new venue.

“The St James Theatre simply doubles the delegate capacity for TEDxWellington 2017,” he says. “We’re really excited about this opportunity for more people to come and hear ideas worth spreading from around Wellington.”

Co-organiser and Head of Delegate Experience Hannah Wignall adds “The theatre provides a wonderful setting in which to be creative and build relationships on the day. It’s a beautiful venue in the heart of the city and we’re really looking forward to working with our partners and sponsors to put on another truly inspiring event.”

The Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency (WREDA) is excited to be welcoming TEDxWellington to the St James Theatre in 2017.

“TEDx celebrates so much that WREDA champions about Wellington in its celebration of locally driven ideas and its elevation of those ideas to a global stage,” said David Perks, General Manager, Venues & Project Development.

TEDxWellington is building on the success of its previous event last March, on the theme of “Trust”. Ticket holders were only told key details on the day, including the venue location, speaker line¬up and programme. This approach had never before been done before at a TEDx event anywhere in the world and was featured on the ted.com Innovations blog.

The 2016 venue was revealed to be Park Road Post Production, Sir Peter Jackson’s post¬ production facility in Miramar. Tickets sold out in a record two minutes. 12 livestream events were offered around the region, as far afield as Masterton and Whanganui. The livestream had 5,643 unique views, more than twice the total of the previous year’s views.

TEDxWellington is a non-profit event run by a dedicated group of volunteers. It’s supported by Wellington City Council and the Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency. More sponsors and partners will be announced in due course.
