MEDIA RELEASE
If you’re in Kaikoura and need health advice, where do you go? What should you do?
In an emergency you should always call 111
The hospital and medical centre in Deal Street is open and fully staffed.
You can call the usual Kaikoura practice number (03) 319 3500 and you will be transferred to a nurse who can help.
You can call any time of the day or night and someone will answer the phone.
If it’s urgent, the nurse can tell you what to do and where to go.
The nurse can provide free health advice 24/7 and whether you need a repeat prescription, or a non-urgent appointment with a nurse or a GP at the health centre, that can be arranged over the phone.
If you need someone to talk to after the bumpy, frightening week we’ve had, you can call the Earthquake Support Line 0800 777 846. Remember it’s ok to ask for help, you’re not alone.
If you’re in town, you can also pop into Kaikoura Health Te Hā o Te Ora.
If you have any diarrhoea, vomiting or fever, phone for health advice immediately. You should limit contact with other people, do not go to work and do not prepare food for anyone.
