Following the significant North Canterbury earthquake on Monday morning and subsequent tremors, Port Marlborough initiated engineering assessment of all Port and Marina infrastructure.
Assessment has included review by structural engineers, and a seabed survey has been undertaken alongside all major berths.
There has been only minimal damage to wharves and other berth infrastructure at Picton. Facilities have been progressively returned to operation as they are cleared as fit for service.
Ferry berths for both Interislander and Bluebridge were returned to service on Monday.
Facilities for foot passengers for both ferry operators are limited while structural inspections of the passenger terminal buildings are completed. We are working with both Bluebridge and Interislander to assist them with alternative facilities in the interim if these are required.
The Shakespeare Bay facility (Waimahara Wharf and log yard) is fully operational. Log cart-in operations resumed on Monday afternoon. The log vessel DL Lilac is alongside to begin loadout tonight.
The Port’s cruise-related infrastructure is fully operational for the season ahead.
Marina facilities at Picton, Waikawa and Havelock are fully operational.
The Port continues to work closely with other agencies and has appreciated the assistance of NIWA and the Harbourmaster’s Office in achieving quick attention to priority infrastructure.
