Oneroa extension opening event

Oneroa extension opening event

Media Release

Wednesday November 9 2016

“Be aware and share” is the message at walkway extension opening.

Walkers and riders will have even more to enjoy this summer, because the finishing touches are being applied to the Beacon Street extension of the Oneroa cycle and walkway. To celebrate the occasion we are holding an official opening event on Sunday, November 13.

The event will be officiated by newly re-elected Deputy Mayor Rehette Stoltz, followed by a circuit of the newly linked cycle and walkways along Alfred Cox Park and Waikanae to Midway Beach.

To ensure safety for all participants, some traffic management measures will be applied to some road crossings, which could cause disruption for people traveling in the location between 9:30am and 11:00am.

The Oneroa cycle and walkway, which recently won the Keep New Zealand Beautiful Kiwi’s Choice award, opened last year in August and is proving to be one of the regions most beloved attractions.

Council’s Environmental and Regulatory Group Manager, Kevin Strongman says, “The new cycle and walkway extension will give our locals and visitors even more variety to experience our city.”

The event will coincide with Council’s awareness campaign, “Be aware and share” which encourages cycle and walkways users to consider one another when they’re using our shared paths.

“Oneroa is one of our feature destinations now, so its important that users consider one another when they’re on it.... It can be as easy as saying hello, or ringing the bell on your bike” Says. Mr Strongman.

Novemeber 13. There will also be a free Barbecue after the official lap of the circuit.
