Join the party at Lower Hutt’s Big Backyard Open Day
The Hutt Valley has an awesome assortment of events and activities over the summer for the public to enjoy. Now they can
find out more by visiting a special showcase in Dowse Square on 20 November.
The Hutt City i-SITE Big Backyard Open Day will feature information and displays from big and small agencies,
organisations and companies that will appeal to a wide variety of ages and interests.
Sports and recreation will include displays by Hutt City Council’s Leisure Active, Animal Services and Libraries,
Greater Wellington Regional Council, Emergency Management, Department of Conservation, Heretaunga Boating Club, Tamatoa
Sea Cadets and Disc Golf.
People keen on arts and craft over the summer can find out more about what’s on offer at displays and information booths
by The Dowse Art Museum, Village Beads and textile weavers Stansborough,
Other organisations promoting their activities and services include Youthline Wellington, East by West Ferries, the
Interislander, St John and Staglands Wildlife Reserve. Hutt City Council’s events team will have a fun photo booth to
promote its Christmas line-up.
i-SITE Team Leader Michaela Warren says there are so many different activities for people to enjoy in Lower Hutt, people
can feel spoilt for choice. The Big Backyard Open Day not only makes it easier, but also fun.
“Some organisations will have special activities and games at the Open Day, which the public will love. There will be a
quiz, where visitors answer a question at different stalls, to go into win some prizes,” she says.
“We’ll also have a band, face painting, a merry-go-round, bouncy castle, horizontal bungy and food trucks. Visitors,
including families, can make a day of it and leave knowing so much more about what the Hutt Valley has to offer.”
The Hutt City i-SITE Big Backyard Open Day will run 10am-2pm on 20 November.
