State Highway 6 closure, South Westland, due to a slip

The NZ Transport Agency advises that State Highway 6 is closed at South Westland’s Jamie Creek, near Lake Paringa, between Haast and Fox Glacier, by a washout.

The information came through early this afternoon. There is no cell coverage in the area.

Contractors are on site and hope to have the road open again by 6pm tonight. There are also rocks on the road at Potters Creek, 2 km north of Lake Paringa.

Drivers should check the Transport Agency’s traffic and travel map or the social media sites (below) for updates on when this highway will reopen.
