Background to the incidents
On Friday 28 October Police recovered two Toyota Hilux utilities that had been dumped near the summit of the Crown Range Road, between Queenstown and Wanaka.
Both vehicles had previously been reported stolen and both had been stripped of engines and other parts before being pushed over a hill into a gully.
One, blue in colour, had been stolen from Kawarau Rd near Queenstown Airport between lunchtime Monday 10 October and lunchtime Tuesday 11 October.
The model had distinguishing features, including a silver coloured bullbar, a white concrete pumping sticker on the tailgate, no canopy, and a black topliner in the back.
The second Hilux, white in colour, had been stolen between Friday afternoon 30 September and Sunday evening 2 October.
It was taken from the intersection of Riverbank and Cadrona Valley Road, Wanaka.
Between 4.30pm Saturday 29 October and 8.30am Monday 31 October the Fulton Hogan quarry and metal processing facility on State Highway 8a near Luggate was the subject of a burglary.
Items were taken, including a 1979 ‘Nomad’ Caravan - registration 26FZQ.
Its whereabouts are unknown.
At about 6.30am on Sunday 30 October a green Toyota Hilux was seen near Beaumont travelling south on State Highway 8.
The Hilux was towing a caravan.
Police are investigating these incidents and are exploring any possible links between all matters.
Whilst investigators have strong leads, Police would appreciate assistance from anybody who believes they may be able to help.
