Choice Hotels’ annual Golf Day raises $5,000 for Cystic Fibrosis NZ

Choice Hotels Asia-Pac today announced its annual Charity Golf Day generated $5,000 in much-needed funds for its long-standing charity partner Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand (CFNZ).

The event was held last Friday at the North Shore Golf Club in Auckland, with over 70 attendees taking part in various activities including a charity auction and some friendly competition on the golf course.

Keen golfer and CEO of Choice Hotels Asia-Pac, Trent Fraser, said all proceeds from this year’s event will go towards improving the quality of life for cystic fibrosis sufferers and their families.

“We are extremely proud to continue supporting the efforts of CFNZ’s dedicated and hard-working team. There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis, and with one in 25 New Zealanders carrying the gene, it’s likely we all know somebody affected. With this in mind, we are dedicated to doing all we can to make a positive difference to the lives of those living with the disease,” says Fraser.

Jane Bollard, Chief Executive of Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand, praised Choice Hotels for its ongoing support.

“This year alone, our friends at Choice Hotels have raised over $20,000 and we cannot put into words what this type of support means to our organisation, and to the lives of those living with cystic fibrosis across the country,” says Bollard.

Earlier this year, Choice Hotels also donated $2 from every night stayed at all of its New Zealand properties to CFNZ during Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Week (15 to 21 August), with more than 30 hotels under the Econo Lodge, Comfort, Quality and Clarion brands participating in the initiative.

Cystic Fibrosis is the most common life threatening genetic disorder affecting New Zealand children. The condition affects several organs, especially the lungs and pancreas, by clogging them with mucus. It can cause shortness of breath, a chronic cough and repeated chest infections. The average life expectancy for those with Cystic Fibrosis is significantly lower than the general population.
