Invercargill Police investigate fatal fire
Emergency services were called by members of the public to a fatal fire in Invercargill at approximately 1:10am this morning.
A flat on Tramway Road was engulfed when Police and Fire Services arrived but the resident was unharmed.
A man, believed to be known to the occupant but not a resident there, was located deceased in the building a short time later.
Fire safety officers and Invercargill CIB commenced a scene examination today.
Police are not in a position to confirm the man’s identity until a post-mortem is complete, however are speaking to likely next of kin.
While the investigation is underway, Police are not in a position to comment further.
