New Zealand artists and siblings Mike and Richard Ponder are creating an exhibition of their internationally renowned artwork to raise awareness and funds for Hospice North Shore this November.
Ponder This will offer original fine art, prints, cards, and books with up to 50% of the proceeds going to the charity that cares for people of the North Shore who are dying – and their families.
This is one of a series of exhibitions that have so far raised over $100,000 for hospices around the country. They hope to raise another $150,000 over the next two years for Hospice.
The brothers have been working as professional artists for over 40 years. With an architect father and a multi-medium artist mother, each of the self-taught brothers has become nationally and internationally recognised for his different style.
While the works of the two artists are very different, both work primarily in oils and use only palette knives. Richard's art is bold and playful and Mike has a more minimalist approach, with his figures and horses being iconic representations of New Zealand farm life.
The brothers have worked together over many years and both share a deep appreciation for the work done by hospice. “We think that what hospice does is incredible, and we decided long ago to make it our charity," says Mike.
“Over twenty five years we have had very close friends supported by our local hospice during their terminal illnesses. On each occasion we have been heartened and impressed by the care they and their families received.”
Hospice North Shore gives free care to people who are dying and to their families: mainly in their own homes. It provides physical, emotional and spiritual support that is possible only because of the generosity of our local community.
