South City is first fully fibre enabled mall in Christchurch

31 October 2016

South City – the first fully fibre enabled mall in Christchurch

Christchurch’s local fibre company, Enable, has made fibre broadband available throughout South City; making it the first fully fibre enabled shopping centre in Christchurch.

This programme has involved Enable working closely with South City’s management to fully reticulate the entire mall with Enable’s network – meaning all businesses can connect to fibre broadband quickly and easily.

“Fibre is the way of the future and to be the first mall to give tenants, as well as customers, the best internet access available is a huge step forward for us,” says Aaron Comis, Financial Controller at South City.

Enable CEO Steve Fuller firmly believes that retail businesses can benefit enormously from making the switch to fibre broadband and is excited to hear about the experiences of South City retailers.

“Shops big and small are heavily dependent on connectivity these days, and fibre will make it a lot easier for South City based-businesses to do business,” he says.

“Managing a web presence, employing cloud-based services to run a store (accounting and payroll, stock control, point of sale and voice), backing up critical data and connecting in to head-office are just some of the things that are easier and quicker over fibre.”

Access to Enable’s fibre broadband service also offers a number of benefits to the mall itself – in the way it’s managed and in the services provided to customers.

“Fibre will give us access to better services with the necessary speed to do it. We can finally have IP phone systems hosted in the cloud,'' says Mr Comis.

“The free Wifi we currently offer throughout the mall is very slow, so by switching to fibre we expect to see more people in our cafes and food court browsing the internet.”

Interest amongst the shopping centres in Christchurch is growing, and Enable is working with a number of other malls to make fibre broadband available to their retailers as soon as possible.
