Hutt City Council officially appointed
Lower Hutt’s Councillors were officially sworn in last night, at the first meeting of the Council that will serve for the term October 2016 - October 2019.
Mayor Ray Wallace appointed Councillor David Bassett as his Deputy Mayor, with unanimous support from the Council.
Mayor Wallace spoke of his excitement to be serving his third term as Mayor to the city, and his total commitment to work in the best interests of the city.
“Our duty as Mayor and Councillors is to represent the wishes of our community honestly and with vigour and, most of all, to listen to our people – it is their city and we are their representatives with the mandate to make this city an even better, more vibrant and inclusive place.”
Hutt City Council is made up of 12 Councillors. Two Councillors represent each of the city’s six Wards. The Councillors by Ward are:
Central:
• Deputy Mayor David Bassett (returned)
• Councillor Simon Edwards (newly elected)
Eastern:
• Councillor Glenda Barratt (newly elected)
• Councillor Lisa Bridson (returned)
Harbour:
• Councillor Tui Lewis (returned)

Northern:
• Councillor Gwen McDonald (returned)
• Councillor Leigh Sutton (newly elected)
Wainuiomata:
• Campbell Barry (returned)
• Josh Briggs (newly elected)
Western:
