Council to retain the simplicity and low-key feel for Alamar Crescent, Mangawhai

Based on community feedback to the draft Concept Plan for Alamar Crescent, Kaipara District Council plans to retain the simplicity and low-key feel for the area and only make some safety improvements at this point.

At peak times (Christmas and public holidays) this area of Mangawhai struggles to cope with demand, however outside of these times this is not the case.

Council does not want to develop expensive infrastructure just to accommodate these peaks and has been looking for solutions that recognise this and minimise the peaks with workable, practical options.

In July Council asked for feedback on the Alamar Crescent Concept Plan, with 57 submissions received.

Based on this feedback Council plans to:

Improve safety and visibility along Alamar Crescent by removing encroaching roadside vegetation and introduce a 30km speed limit;

Improve signs at carparks to gain better use of the parking spaces and so have more parking available;

and

Provide safe and clearly marked pedestrian access through the boat ramp areas as well as improved coastal walkway signage to guide walkers along the foreshore rather than Alamar Crescent.

General Manager Community, Venessa Anich, says the Council has been working with an advisory group made up of the Boating Club, the Community Trust and a local resident, to gain the best outcome for all users of this area

“We received significant community feedback about the Concept Plan for Alamar Crescent. Not everyone supported the proposed changes but there was agreement about some safety improvements. We will continue to monitor the area and see if we need to re-assess any future improvements to ensure this is a ll-functioning and desirable area for the public to enjoy.”

“The feedback from our community survey last year was that there is a strong public desire not to over-develop the area, to retain the simplicity and low-key feel of the area.”
