New Be A Tidy Kiwi unveiled at WasteMINZ
A refreshed version of New Zealand's much loved anti-littering character was unveiled today at the WasteMINZ Conference, the Auckland Litter Prevention Steering Group (ALPSG) said today.
“We asked students around the country to have their say on the design direction Tidy Kiwi should take and to share their views about litter and being a tidy kiwi,” Richard Leckinger, ALPSG Programme Manager said.
The Auckland Litter Prevention Steering group was formed in 2013 to coordinate a regional inter-agency approach to the prevention of litter and illegal dumping. Part of the project is to revitalise Tidy Kiwi so that a new generation of New Zealanders can discover this iconic identity and come together to protect what we love.
“We have tested the design in cinemas, schools, parks and via surveys; the response has been both overwhelming and extremely gratifying,” Mr Leckinger said.
“Being a tidy kiwi makes me feel like the happiest, cleanest superhero who helps the environment,” – 8 year old boy, Wellington.
“Being a tidy kiwi makes me feel like I’ve done a humongous thing to make the world a better place. It makes me feel proud,” - 8 year old girl, Auckland.
“Be A Tidy Kiwi as a brand has been taken back to its roots, stressing a positive, inclusive message; we are all guardians of the places we love. Now that the new mascot has been finalised, it will be made available for councils and community groups to spread the anti-littering message,” Mr Leckinger said.
