Hamilton election - confirmed results announced

The 2016 Hamilton City Council election results confirm Andrew King has been elected Hamilton’s new Mayor by nine votes.
Andrew King received 8728 votes, Paula Southgate received 8719 votes.
The following councillors have been elected.
West Ward councillors:
• Martin Gallagher (8663)
• Angela O’Leary (7459)
• Dave MacPherson (7353)
• Leo Tooman (6831)
• Geoff Taylor (5302)
• Siggi Henry (5280)
East Ward councillors:
• Paula Southgate (9409)
• Rob Pascoe (6672)
• James Casson (6280)
• Philip Yeung (6027)
• Garry Mallett (5274)
• Mark Bunting (5206)
The official result is declared after all special votes have been validated and counted. A declaration of results will be published Waikato Times onSaturday 15 October and elected members take office the day after the public notice Sunday 16 October.
However an elected member cannot act until after they have been officially sworn in, and this is scheduled for Thursday 27 October.
Should any candidate wish to seek a judicial recount, the law provides a three day period after the public notice (to the end of business on Tuesday 18 October) to lodge an application with the district court.
