Two Charitable Trusts Collaborate on a Project with a Social Conscience
Two local charitable trusts have teamed up to create a 2017 calendar that raises awareness and funds for Orana Wildlife
Park, whilst providing energy efficiency tips to those who purchase it.
Community Energy Action (CEA), a charitable trust committed to keeping people warm, dry and healthy in their homes, has
collaborated with Orana Wildlife Park, who recently celebrated their 40th birthday, to produce a 2017 calendar with a
social conscience. It seemed a fitting collaboration as both CEA and Orana Wildlife Park are concerned about the
environment we live in and the impact living in an unhealthy one has on both humans and animals.
These beautiful calendars are $14.95 each, and proceeds of each calendar will go toward the care and conservation of the
animals at Orana. This calendar is not just packed with stunning animal portraits and interesting animal facts, but also
seasonally relevant energy efficiency tips as well as a built-in temperature strip. It aims to raise awareness of CEA
and provide energy advice about small changes to everyday living that can improve the health of one’s home environment.
CEA also recognised the similarities between human families and Orana’s meerkat mobs, so CEA sponsored Orana’s meerkats
family in 2014, and has continued to sponsor their progress since then.
Orana Wildlife Park is New Zealand’s only open-range zoo, and is the only large zoo in the country not owned and
operated by local government. This means that fundraising is an essential focus, as 100% of funds must be separately
raised for all capital projects, improvements and animal transfers.
Community Energy Action has been helping people to keep warm in Canterbury for 22 years. From the early days of the
free, recycled curtain bank and insulation service for both landlords and homeowners, the trust has diversified its’
offering, keeping up with commercial competitors while always working hard to reach those who need help the most. CEA
has undertaken valuable quantitative research, demonstrating the positive effect of warm, insulated housing on the
health of the household.
