"Kayaker drowned in Waitaki River"
A man has died this evening after getting into trouble while kayaking on the Waitaki River, near Kurow.
Police were alerted to the situation at approximately 4:50pm today and a rescue operation was immediately launched.
Unfortunately the man was found drowned in the river a short time later.
Police and other emergency services are supporting the family following this tragic incident.
