UPDATE: Council action taken following cloudy water

Published: Fri 7 Oct 2016 01:19 PM
UPDATE
Christchurch City Council has been on-site flushing the water network in the Avonhead-Russley area. As a result water in this area is now clearing.
Due to the quick response from residents and contractors, the clouded water was contained around Russley Road to Avonhead Road between Yaldhurst Road and Memorial Ave.
We advise residents living in this area to run an outside tap for 10-15 minutes to remove any remaining cloudy water from household pipes.
Further flushing and testing will be continued this afternoon. Test results will be available mid-afternoon tomorrow.
While we do not believe the current situation requires us to recommend people boil water this is something they can do, as a precautionary measure, if they have any concerns.

While we do not believe the current situation requires us to recommend people boil water this is something they can do, as a precautionary measure, if they have any concerns.
Earlier we advised that we were investigating why water in some parts of the north west of the city was coming out of the tap cloudy.
We had a few calls this morning from the public about the quality of the water, mainly in the Avonhead- Russley area. However these calls have since tapered off as the water has cleared.
The pump station which was believed to be the cause of the discolouration has been shut down.
