Offline Dating is the Solution for Singles with Swipe Fatigue
October 7 2016
Singles who are becoming increasingly frustrated with their online quest for love connections are about to be able to take their search offline.
Offline Dating launches next week at The Dominion Bar in Mt Eden as Auckland’s latest opportunity for face to face ‘swiping’ in a speed dating format.
Budding entrepreneur behind Offline Dating, Theo Ainsley, says “as people are getting so uninspired with online dating situations now, I saw there is a gap in the market for the way we used to do things - actually talking to people to see if we like each other. Speed dating offers a perfect opportunity to talk to a bunch of potentially interested people for only five minutes and then make a more informed decision to see them again - or not - based on your initial perceptions.”
The events run at a selection of bars around Auckland with 8-10 ‘dates’ within a set age group, and each date lasts until the bell rings. Every dater secretly selects anyone on their match card that they would like to see again, and once the results are analysed, any matches will be given the contact details to make plans for a second date.
In addition to the opportunity for finding a love match, daters are given a rose each so they can play their own Bachelor-style show. To help ease into the evening, the menu includes a couple of drinks and a variety of canapes.
“There’s really nothing to lose,” says Mr Ainsley, “because all you’re doing is offering five minutes of your time with no strings attached. And if you can make a decision to see someone again based on something more than just a picture, then I feel like I’ve done my part to bring back some reality to the dating scene.”
