Come on Auckland – Vote

We'll have a new mayor-elect on Saturday and more than one million Aucklanders can still have a say in who that will be.

But the clock is ticking. The ballot closes at midday on Saturday 8 October.

To date 33.4 per cent of votes have been returned. That’s a long way short of what Auckland voters are telling us in their responses to a spot poll council has run on Twitter over the past 48 hours.

The spot poll respondents have a strong sense of duty, even made the decisions, more than half have posted their votes and an overwhelming majority say they are going to vote – but you need to get going or going will be gone,

Come on Auckland get those votes in. Show your love!

Even with the deadline looming there is still time for people to deliver their vote direct to any one of 55 libraries, nine service centres and seven giant heart-on-a-stick ballot boxes at the Orewa, Takapuna, New Lynn, Manukau, Pakuranga, Pukekohe libraries and on lower Queen St, outside Britomart Station.

If you want to vote but are not on the electoral roll, or you haven’t received your voting document, there is still time as well.

You can register or make an address change to the electoral roll by 4.00pm Friday 7 October, and cast a special vote right up to midday Saturday 8 October. Here’s what to do:

• Just phone the Electoral Office on 09 950 7539 or 0800 922 822 to enrol or check if you are on the roll
