“What’s on Your Mind, Auckland City?”
No issue is too small, that’s the message a street event on Lower Queen Street hopes to get across to young urban Aucklanders during Mental Health Awareness Week.
The public installation will feature a large-scale expression board with the question, “What’s on your mind?” which locals can add to by writing an anonymous answer. The goal is to encourage people to feel OK about sharing their concerns and feelings; a growing issue in today’s youth. The result will provide a visual insight into the mental health climate of young adults from within the Central Auckland area.
“We hope that this event encourages young people to stop and talk to us, ask questions about counselling and realise that counselling is not something to be scared or embarrassed about,” says Shelley Anderson, Executive Director at Home and Family Counselling.
Young professional Jacob Dickson (age 25) comments, “Having just started a new job in Auckland's CBD, there are obviously a lot of changes I'm having to adjust to. This campaign sounds like a cool way to keep myself and others who are in similar situations in check by realising that everyone is going through their own issues too.”
Mental Health Awareness Week (10-16 October) takes place annually in New Zealand to educate and raise awareness about positive mental health and wellbeing.
“What’s on your mind?” street art installation will also be hosted in two other central locations around Auckland to capture the mental health issues of young students and professionals.

The last event will be held: Date: Thursday 13 October Time: 11am to 3:30pm Location: Hikuwai Plaza, AUT City Campus Tickets: Free Entry
