Police wanting to speak to motorist who was nearly hit

"Police wanting to speak to motorist who was nearly hit by fleeing driver "

Police want to hear from the occupants of a car who is believed to have nearly been hit by a fleeing motorcyclist, ten days ago in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Hillsborough Rd/Mt Albert Road area.

31 year-old Vinal Kavit Naidu died after the motorcycle he was riding hit a parked car.

Just minutes earlier at around 1.15am, Mr Naidu had sped past a Police patrol car on the BMW motorbike.

They indicated for him to stop, but he failed to do so and a pursuit was initiated.

As is routine with any fleeing driver incident that ends in a crash, an investigation is underway.

The fleeing driver incident lasted for only a few minutes, during which time Police believe that Mr Naidu went through a red light and nearly collided with another car.

That car was travelling along Mt Albert road towards Mt Roskill and had stopped at the lights at Mt Albert/Hillsborough Road intersection.

Police would like to hear from the occupants of the car, or any other motorists who saw the pursuit.

They are asked to contact the Auckland Police on 09 302 6557.
