Lester welcomes Snip ‘n Chip scheme
Wellington mayoral candidate and local SPCA board member Justin Lester today welcomed the launch of the Wellington
SPCA’s $13 “Snip ‘n Chip” initiative as an important move towards his goal of a pest-free capital city.
“The Wellington SPCA’s initiative will remove cost as a barrier for the de-sexing and micro-chipping of cats. It will
also help improve the health of the local cat population and ensure lost cats can be returned to their owners,” says
Justin Lester, who is a SPCA board member.
“Being launched at midday today at Civic Square, Snip ‘n Chip will also help educate Wellington’s cat owners about
feline husbandry and health needs, and wildlife awareness.
“It will be a huge help for cat lovers on fixed incomes, students and retirees. For those without a car there are also
transport options with the SPCA’s offer to come to your door for as little as $1.”
In July Justin Lester announced his plan for a pest-free capital.
“Wellingtonians love their natural habitat and are committed to protecting it. With the support of a motivated mayor,
Wellington can dramatically reduce its predator populations including rats, stoats, possums, weasels and ferrets,” said
Lester.
“Snip ‘n Chip will help make considerable inroads into this ambitious target by reducing Wellington’s population of
feral cats.
