Campylobacter Outbreak Cost estimates released

29 September 2016

Havelock North Campylobacter Outbreak Cost estimates released to Board.

At yesterday’s Board meeting (28 September), Hawke’s Bay District Health Board (HBDHB) chief executive Kevin Snee said the cost of the Havelock North Campylobacter outbreak was estimated to be around $380,000 to the organisation.

More than half of the cost, $216,000, was attributed to staff sickness, he said.

The next biggest items were:
Additional costs in ICU ($66,000)
The cost of surveying the community ($24,000)
Gastro clinical supplies ($23,000)
Dehydration management resources ($18,000)

Whilst the estimates were an extra cost burden to HBDHB, they were not at a level that had been disruptive to the organisation, he said.
