MEDIA RELEASE: TOM SCOTT TO BE PATRON FOR PLAYFEST AND JUDGES ANNOUCED

48 HOUR SHORT PLAY FESTIVAL LOCATED IN THE LITTLE THEATRE LOWER HUTT
Tom Scott, well known cartoonist and writer, is Patron for Nextstage event ‘Playfest”, the 48 hour short play
competition, staged in the Little Theatre Lower Hutt Oct 7-9 and 15th and open to anyone from 16 to 101.
Tom is joined by Adam Macauley from Radio NZ Drama, Peter Hambleton, veteran of Wellington stage(TheHobbit), and Pippa
Sanderson, Hutt City Arts and Cultural Advisor.

The registration for the event is on-line (see link below) and requires a $15 entry fee.
Friday 7th of October - 6pm
Teams arrive at the Little Theatre Lower Hutt. They will then be given a “subject” on which their play must be based on
and then released for the 48 hour challenge to begin.
Sunday 9th of October - 7pm
A first heat elimination takes place. Five teams are chosen and during the following week will work with a team ofprofessional director, light and sound designer, dramaturg and production manager. All Five plays are staged with lights and sound and props in the final heat. This is a ticketed public performance before the Judging panel. Tickets are general admission at the door and cost $10 open from 6pm
Saturday the 15th of October Finals - 7pm
Teams get to perform their final performance and the judging panel selects A winner and 2nd and 3rd places. A trophywill be given to the winner as well as prizes for both runner up teams will also be given. Tickets are general admission at the door and cost $10 open from 6pm
WHY
To foster creative community engagement in the performance arts. To promote the profile of Lower Hutt as an arts friendly city.
To offer the opportunity to young and old, those differently abled and people of different ethnicities a chance to speakwith story to an audience.
To create new relationships of value amongst community.
