Dedicated volunteers awarded

Cathy and Eddie Gill from Thames SPCA have been announced as the overall winners of the 2016 SPCA Purina Volunteer of
the Year award.
Cathy and Eddie Gill have dedicated the last 40 years to helping the animals at Thames SPCA and serving on the Centre’s
Over the span of these four decades, some of Cathy and Eddie’s contribution includes:
· Fundraising and manning SPCA fundraising stalls
· Fostering animals
· Helping with the after hours phone service
· Animal rehabilitation and volunteer vet nursing for the onsite vet
· Supplying animal food at their own cost
· Providing an offsite quarantine for Centre cats
· Educating the public
· Centre maintenance
· Relocation and development of the current Centre
Where the Thames Centre is today is the direct result of Cathy and Eddie’s contribution and commitment to making their
community a better place for the animals. They truly love the SPCA and animal welfare has really been their life’s work.
It is an honour to be able to recognise Cathy and Eddie’s absolute dedication to the animals.
The Grand Prize
Thanks to food sponsor Purina and Mission Estate, Cathy and Eddie have won a weekend away at Mission Estate Farmhouse in
the Hawkes Bay including accommodation, flights and dinner. They will also receive a year’s supply of Purina One cat or
dog food – a perfect prize for these animal lovers!
