"Waikato Police attend death of Hamilton boxer"
Please attribute to Acting Inspector Andrew Mortimore, Waikato Police:
A 49-year-old Hamilton man has died at a boxing event this evening during an organised amateur fight.
Waikato Police were called to the scene at Te Rapa Racecourse at approximately 9:15pm.
A doctor who was already on site and emergency services conducted CPR for at least 30 minutes, however the man died at the scene.
Family and friends were present and Police’s thoughts are with them at this time.
Police are speaking with witnesses and are conducting further inquiries on behalf of the coroner.
No further information will be released this evening.
