Cyber Safety Month deals with the dangers of digital
Hutt City Libraries annual Tech Series returns in October with talks and workshops all about internet safety and security.
Sandra Mann, Hutt City Libraries Manager, says, “Most of us rely on the internet in almost all aspects of our lives: communication, news and research, banking, business, the storage of vital information and much more.
“But a lot of us don’t give enough thought to protecting all that vital information, and it can be difficult to know where to start and what to do. That’s why this year’s Tech Series is so important.
“This month, we’ve organised talks and workshops for everyone - families, seniors and businesses, to help us all better understand Cyber Safety in 2016. We’ve been lucky enough to pull in a wide array of experts, with representatives from Google, the National Cyber Policy Office, NetSafe, BNZ, InternetNZ and Cyber Toa.”
Of particular interest to families with internet-connected kids will be NetSafe’s talk on cyberbullying and the Harmful Digital Communications Act, and Google’s talk about safety tips for kids online and their new services like YouTube for Kids and Google Cardboard Exhibitions using virtual reality.
You can visit library.huttcity.govt.nz for times/dates and more information on each talk or workshop.
