Community workshops to discuss
central riverside
The riverside and its connection
with central Lower Hutt is the focus of two public workshops
at the end of this month.
The Greater Wellington Regional and Hutt City councils are inviting people to drop in at two informal and informative workshops to discuss how we can enjoy and enhance the Hutt riverside and better connect the river with our central city, such as the proposed riverside promenade on the eastern banks.
Lower Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace says, “This project is of great significance well into the future for our city. We are developing these designs for our community and so we need to hear what people value about the river and how we can best enhance that - through recreation, buildings and other amenities and the natural environment. This is a really important discussion for us to have as a community, so do join us at these workshops.”
The workshops are part of the RiverLink project. This project integrates the work of Greater Wellington Regional Council, Hutt City Council and the NZ Transport Agency to improve flood protection between Kennedy Good and Ewen bridges, a better connection between the city and the river as part of Making Places, and better transport links to and from the CBD.
The workshops will be relaxed and informative sessions hosted at The Dowse Art Museum by Greater Wellington Regional and Hutt City councils.
We will be inviting people to place symbols on maps and write down ideas about the natural environment, recreation opportunities, and improved lifestyle and amenities in this section of the Hutt River. Children are also encouraged to attend.
