Voters can now go to showyourlove.co.nz and learn all about the hundreds of candidates who have put their names forward to lead Auckland for the next three years.

Auckland Council created the website in response to voters’ calls for more information about the people seeking to win positions in the upcoming local body elections and those standing for licensing trusts and district health boards.

All 603 candidates were invited to provide information about themselves, what they think and their vision as well as a 150-word biography. More than 400 candidates responded.

Voters can now go to showyourlove.co.nz to do their own research as well as compare candidates’ views by topics.

“All you have do is tap in your address and it brings up all the candidates standing in your local area,” says Auckland Council’s Manager Elections Planning, Glyn Walters

The main reason people give for not voting is not knowing enough about the candidates so we’ve addressed this, he said.

“We emailed each candidate to tell them about the website, sent them a unique link and provided instructions and examples on how to add information and what the website would look like.”

Mr Walters said the council wanted to make it as fair and easy as possible so every candidate could take up the opportunity that this interactive website offers.
