congratulates Andrew Tang
Wellington Chamber of Commerce congratulates Scots College student Andrew Tang for winning the 2016 Sir Paul Callaghan Eureka Award for his proposal for a sustainable algae industry.
Chamber Chief Executive John Milford said it was a fantastic achievement.
“This is a prestigious award that is highly sought-after, so winning it is no mean feat. It’s a perfect example both of Andrew’s dedication and what a strong education sector can deliver.
“The great thing is that his proposal is not just pie in the sky. The award organisers say that not only is his idea ‘solid’, but his ‘out-of-the-box vision’ was also a convincing business case for solving New Zealand's energy needs.
“This is exactly the type of result we expect to see coming out of Wellington’s world-class education sector, and it will keep happening as long as we give it the support and encouragement it needs, and that we back it up.
“We must ensure we have the infrastructure to entice innovative businesses to set up here so we can encourage Andrew and others like him to stay and do great things from our city.”
Scots College Principal Graeme Yule said Andrew had achieved exceptionally well lately.
“As well as winning the Eureka Premier award, he has also won a plethora of business awards culminating in his current trip to the USA [to Silicon Valley as part of Young Enterprise Trust]. We will watch his progress with much interest.”
