Bike racks available on Palmerston North buses
Horizons Regional Council in conjunction with Tranzit Coachlines, have begun installing bike racks on all Palmerston North bus services following a successful trial on the Feilding services.
The new bike racks are available for use now and more will begin to appear on other buses within the next two weeks, with the roll out completed by 19 September.
A demonstration using the bike racks will be held at 10.30am on Monday 12 September at the Main Street bus terminal.
Horizons Regional Councillor and Passenger Transport Committee chair Rachel Keedwell says she is very pleased with the progress.
“For bus users to be able to ride their bike between bus stops and their final destinations is a fantastic and environmentally conscious option.
“We’re always looking for ways to make catching the bus easier for the community, and to encourage more users.
“This provides further options for people to choose how they get around our city, and is a step towards making Palmerston North a more bike friendly city.”
Bike rack usage is on a first come first served basis with the racks being able to carry two at a time.
The racks are simple to use, with an instructional video on how to load and unload your bike available on the Horizons YouTube channelhttp://bit.ly/2chnhLw.
