AT HOP comes to the supermarket check-out
Getting an
AT HOP card is about to get a lot easier with prepay blue
cards now being sold in selected supermarkets and
stores.
Auckland Transport says Foodstuffs will be stocking prepay HOP cards at 59 of its New World, PAK’nSAVE and Four Square stores across Auckland.
David Stewart, General Manager Merchandise, Foodstuffs North Island Ltd welcomes the move. “Every day our Auckland stores serve thousands of customers, many of which use public transport and will appreciate the convenience of being able to purchase prepay HOP cards at their local supermarket.”
Auckland Transport’s Group Manager AT HOP, Denise Verrall says as of June 2016, surveys indicated that 42% of Auckland adults already have a HOP card. “Putting prepay cards into some shops will make it easier for people to make the switch from cash.”
The $20 cards are loaded with $10 HOP money and can continue to be topped up online, at a top up machine or at other retailer locations.
“Customers have told us that they believe supermarkets would be a great place to buy an AT HOP card, especially for those parents who need to buy replacement cards for children.”
AT HOP is the smart card which can be used for bus, rail and ferry travel throughout Auckland, it was rolled out on trains in late 2012 and then extended to ferry and bus services.
Four out of five customers now choose to pay for their public transport trip with the card.
Denise Verrall says, “The card gives a discount of at least 20% off a single trip cash fare and it also speeds up boarding, particularly on buses.” (Discount does not apply on SkyBus and Waiheke ferry services).
