TPP Free Welllington [1] - Media Release 10 Sept 2016.
Rally for Democracy – Wellington
1pm - 4pm Saturday 10 September – Wellington Civic Square.
How many times do the people have to say no to forced or bad deals?
At a national level forced council elections. At the International level forced trade blocs without even the pretense of the consent of the people affected.
Democracy and sovereignty are under attack. Stand up - Fight Back!
Have fun whilst doing democracy – the party for our future.
Join with people in your community to rally against corporate control.
TPP Free Wellington calls on the community to Rally at the Civic Square, from 12:00pm Saturday 10th September to, ‘Fight Corporate Control and Reclaim Aotearoa for the people’ [2] The Wellington event in Civic Square 12-4pm features musicians including Not the Day Job, Warren Maxwell (Trinity Roots), Sam Manzanza Band, Matt Pike and Whole Lotta Led and many more. There will be a range of speakers including Sam Huggard CTU, campaigners, NGOs and politicians.
We need to join with others to connect the dots between the struggles against corporate control - multinational corporations are being given rights and advantages over citizens and the local economy in many different ways.
The Rally is an affirmation of democractic and sovereign New Zealand.
We highlight and celebrate the positive alternatives in communities in Aotearoa – through organics, permaculture, community gardens; local renewable energy, Evs (Electical Vehicles), divestment from fossil fuels; campaigns for better public transport and cycling; UBI, community finance, time banking; refugee support groups; etc.
People across New Zealand will rally on Saturday 10 September to oppose the TPP ratification.[3]
Trade and investment treaties take away our rights to protect ourselves.
