THE GREAT COMMUNITY CLEAN UP KICKS OFF
The Warehouse & Neighbourly join forces to tidy up Kiwi neighbourhoods
The Warehouse and New Zealand’s free and private neighbourhood website Neighbourly.co.nz have partnered up to launch an initiative designed to bring neighbours together to make a difference in their
communities.
The Great Community Clean Up (GCCU) is a national initiative encouraging Kiwis to get out into their communities to give
them a clean up between 3-9 October 2016.
The Warehouse Executive GM Community and Environment Paul Walsh, says they’re hoping to see clean up events organised in
neighbourhoods throughout the country.
“This is about bringing Kiwis together to make a real impact in their local communities, and it can start with just a
small gesture,” he says. “Something as simple as picking up rubbish from your local street or park is a great way to get
involved.”
As part of the week-long initiative, a number of The Warehouse stores are organising their own clean up events in their
neighbourhoods.
Neighbourly co-founder Casey Eden says the event is about encouraging “each and every one of us to take ownership of the
places we call home”.
“It’s very easy to sit back and rely on others to do those little jobs around our neighbourhoods but there’s a real
sense of belonging when we step up ourselves”says Eden. “A Clean Up doesn’t have to be a huge gesture; the smallest acts
really can make a difference and show your community you care. Plus they make your community a better cleaner place for
you and your neighbours to live.”
Registering a Great Community Clean Up event on Neighbourly puts members in the draw to win prizes including $100 Gift
Cards from The Warehouse. The campaign also has an award for the Little Kiwi Clean Up Star - recognising those aged 13
and under who take part in GCCU events.
Neighbourly fosters interaction and conversation between neighbours and community organisations by creating an easy way
for them to talk and share online through free and private websites for their suburbs. Members use the site to exchange
recommendations on local services, ask questions and share advice, find employment, plan events, discuss local issues
and get to know one another.
Since launching in June 2014, Neighbourly has grown to a membership of over 355,000 with around 20,000 new members
joining each month. The Warehouse has been a Neighbourly corporate partner since April 2015.
