Get to know your candidates online
Voters will have the opportunity to get to know local body election candidates online so they can make informed choices about who they vote for.
“The main reason people give for not voting is not knowing enough about the candidates (31%). That’s even more than those who ‘forgot or left it too late’ (24%), were ‘not interested’ or said they were ‘too busy’ (each 14%),” says Auckland Council Manager Election Planning, Glyn Walters.
“We’re rectifying that by giving candidates the opportunity to tell voters about themselves, what they think and their vision for Auckland’s future.”
From 16 September voters can do their own research through the website showyourlove.co.nz and will also be able to compare candidates’ views on a range of topics. You can follow the election campaign also by going to Facebook facebook.com/voteAKL
“We’ll be sending candidates a link on 1 September asking them to provide the information on a range of topics voters will be looking for in order to make their choices,” Mr Walters says.
The candidate information will go live on showyourlove.co.nz on16 September.
