Filter Installations Underway This Week
Installation of water filters under Project Waireka
in Raetihi households that were affected by the diesel spill
that polluted the Makotuku Stream in September 2013 gets
underway this Wednesday (17 Aug).
Project Waireka Implementation Team Leader Missy Biddle said that this was a really exciting time for Raetihi.
“With all the legal requirements, information gathering, logistics and other things it sometimes felt like we would never get there so it really is fantastic to be starting the installation of the filters this week,” she said.
“Installation of the filters will commence on George St school houses then Grey St (east end) at 9.00am this Wednesday 17th then move onto Pitt street.”
“The Implementation Team needs easy access to households taking part and under the kitchen bench area so please remove pots and pans, etc. to help make the installation as quick and easy as possible.”
“We will be working alongside Spring NZ and will be helping to ensure there are no problems with access and assist with any other issues that might come up.”
“Streets will receive a confirmation flyer and/or txt as installs progress.”
“If you are away and we cannot gain access, your home may be left till the end of installs.”
“Anyone who hasn’t haven’t yet spoken with the Implementation Team about arranging access should call me as soon as possible.”
“We still have a paid work opportunity for one or two handy people and could also do with a few volunteers to help with all the small odd jobs.”
“If you are
interested in earning some money or can spare a few hours to
help out this great community project please give me a call
on 022 132 6960 or come down to 16 Parapara Rd for a chat
and a coffee this Wednesday morning.”
