DOC whitebaiting meeting
The Department of Conservation (DOC) is holding a meeting in Balclutha on Tuesday 23 August to discuss whitebaiting.
DOC freshwater ranger Ciaran Campbell said the meeting marked the beginning of the 2016 season. The season runs from today to November 30.
“We want to meet with whitebaiters to discuss whitebait and their lifecycle, the whitebait regulations and goals for management of whitebaiting in the Clutha River,” Ciaran said.
He added that DOC needed feedback from whitebaiters so the department could be better informed about the fishery. For the past few seasons, whitebaiters have filled out catch diaries and questionnaires for DOC which provided useful information.
