Election nominations close this week
Election Box - Stand Now!
Nominations for Christchurch’s local elections close this week, and Electoral Officer Jo Daly is encouraging candidates to come forward now.
The nomination tally stands at 46:
• One nomination for Mayor
•
17 nominations for Councillor
• 28
nominations for Community Board member.
Nominations close at noon this Friday 12 August, but candidates are asked not to leave it to the last day as incomplete information can lead to an invalid nomination.
A list of confirmed nominations is at ccc.govt.nz/elections and is updated daily. There are 54 positions available – one Mayor, 16 Councillors and 37 Community Board members. The 2013 elections attracted 153 candidates.
“If you have perspective, leadership skills and a strong commitment to Christchurch and your community, you should find out more about standing,” says Jo Daly.
“If you’re considering the idea, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me to discuss the nomination process and this opportunity to represent your community.
“You can stand for election if you are a New Zealand citizen, enrolled on the electoral roll and over the age of 18.”
Candidates are encouraged to come forward now so they can get all the information they need. Visit ccc.govt.nz/elections, email elections2016@ccc.govt.nz or phone Jo Daly on 03 941 8581 to find out more.
