News Release from Keep NZ Beautiful Chairman

Commenting on The Christchurch Press editorial, this morning Keep NZ Beautiful Chairman, John Riddell, agrees that Auckland has got it right by having an annual inorganic collection from inside peoples boundaries.

“The legacy Council Waitakere City Council got it right when it got rid of kerbside inorganic rubbish collections, and it is pleasing that Auckland Council has picked up the initiative”, says Mr Riddell Inorganic rubbish is a Hugh issue, and more needs to be done to recycle the rubbish that is collected, Mr Riddell continues.

“ People who put the old sofa or broken table on the kerbside need to think carefully before they do, to insure that what goes on the kerb can be recycled”, says Mr Riddell.

Mr Riddell is concerned about the impact that housing intensification will have on litter of any sort and believes all Councils need to work with KNZB and ensure our towns and Cities work together and continually educate people about the perils of litter and the need to keep our streets clean of litter.

It is a very easy way of helping the environment.
