Firefighters Union extends ban to Christchurch
The New Zealand Professional Firefighters' Union has extended its blacking of a fire truck to now include Christchurch City.
The front running Christchurch City truck, also a "MAN" make of appliance has now been blacked by firefighters.
The Union banned firefighters from crewing the appliance and says the issues are genetic and effect New Zealand's entire fleet.
Last week, Auckland firefighters took the rare action of blacking their lead truck.
NZPFU spokesman Boyd Raines says "they're all the same truck with bad DNA, the risk to firefighters and the public is too great."
The Christchurch City Rescue Tender also carries the critical life saving rescue equipment used to cut crash victims from vehicles.
NZPFU spokesman Boyd Raines says "Christchurch firefighters cite ongoing issues, build issues and the truck's quality of performance as reasons for pulling firefighters from their appliance."
